Description: This article sets out the Government of Cameroon's proposal to create two Forest Management Units (as timber concessions) which would cover the entire Ebo forest and its gorilla habitat, and our response to it. In particular, we summarize proposals to undergo a comprehensive land use planning process to enable community involvement in decisions relating to what they see as their customary land, and the possibility of creating more conservation-friendly alternatives to the proposed logging. While the international conservation and donor community has been overwhelmingly opposed to the logging plans, the situation within Cameroon is more complex and evolving daily. We are working hard to bring community and conservation concerns and potential solutions to the attention of decision makers both inside and outside of Cameroon.Type
